How the ads were done

Wonderbra Hello Boys

Most great ads have an interesting story behind them: how the writers and art directors dreamed up the ideas, and what inspired them. I thought it would be an interesting idea to research some of these stories and describe the process behind their creation. I pitched this idea to Stephen Foster at the advertising website More About Advertising (MAA). He agreed with me so I wrote the first of these case histories, about the famous Wonderbra ad, ‘Hello Boys’. It was posted on the site yesterday (August 4th, 2015). It’s the first of an occasional series I intend to write for MAA. So take a look. You never know it, seeing how other people do ads might help you do better work yourself – whether you’re a designer, art director, writer or member of a marketing department. Eventually, we may gather them together at Anatomised and offer them as a creative case history textbook. Until then, keep a weather eye on More About Advertising.
